The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is 11th out of 21 teams with a 291 after the first round Friday in the Furman Intercollegiate at Greenville, S.C. Georgia Southern leads the tightly packed group at 279. UTC's Wes Gosselin is tied for 18th individually at 71, and Stuart Thomas, Etienne Brault and Brooks Thomas shot 72, 73 and 75. Playing as individuals, Andrew Weathers and Lake Johnson shot 73 and 75 as well.

Baseball

- Lee University bounced back from an 11-1 loss to visiting Valdosta State with a 5-0 win in their Gulf South baseball doubleheader Friday, as pitchers Rob Gustitus and Joe Parete combined on a four-hitter, with eight strikeouts for Gustitus. Peyton Meeker was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Spencer Mossburg was 2-for-3 and scored a run in the win for the Flames (20-10, 9-8). Mossburg had the RBI and Dalton Ney was 2-for-3 with the run in the loss.

- Sewanee had a true walk-off Southern Athletic Association win, 4-3, over visiting Oglethorpe. The game-ending run scored on Beau Allen's ninth-inning walk following a leadoff single by Riley Brandvold, Ryan Poole being hit by a pitch, Max Murray's sacrifice bunt and Jackson Cooper's walk. Poole was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Trey Akins was 2-for-4 and Tony Dykes scored two runs for the Tigers (13-10, 5-1) behind Drew Mancuso's and Jackson Cook's 10-strikeout pitching.

- Covenant won 3-2 and 9-8 in opening its USA South road series against William Peace. Luke Harvey's second hit of game two brought in the second of two Scots runs in the top of the ninth. Joel Johnson was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and Trenton Nobles was 4-for-5 with an RBI in that game for Covenant (10-14, 3-8).

- Cleveland State lost 8-7 and 9-3 in TCCAA baseball at Columbia State. Cameron Payne was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Sean McDermott was 2-for-3 with a homer and Hagan Kennedy was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first game for the Cougars (18-9, 5-6). In game two Brett Browning and Devon Gardner each was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Browning scoring twice.

- Tennessee Wesleyan, ranked fifth in the NAIA, began an Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball home series Friday with a 14-0 win over St. Andrews and now is 22-9, 9-1 in league play.

- Bryan College won 11-2 at Reinhardt in the opener Friday night of their AAC series. Trevor Behrent was 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBIs, C.J. Owens also homered twice and drove in four runs and Wade Weinburger and Lake Burris also homered and had two RBIs each for the 19th-ranked Lions (22-9, 7-3), whilc Chris Sauve-Gebhardt and Zane Glass each gave up four hits and a run in five and four innings pitched.

Fishing

- Wesley Strader from Spring City, Tenn., is in ninth place after Friday's first round of the GEICO Bassmaster Classic on Lake Conroe in Texas. His five keepers Friday totaled 19 pounds, 9 ounces; Brent Ehrler from Newport Beach, Calif., leads with 23-3, including one largemouth weighing 9-12.

Softball

- Lee beat fifth-ranked Valdosta State 6-1 and lost 4-3 in 10 innings in GSC softball Friday. Courtney Crawford had three hits and two RBIs behind Leigh Beatenbough's pitching for Lee (21-10, 10-7). Stevie Baird, Abby McKinney, Brooklynn Frazier and Kayla Louie added two hits apiece, Baird with a two-run double. She had a tying sacrifice fly in the ninth inning of game two, when Taylor Moran pitched all 10 with two earned runs. Zoe Miller and Moran each had two hits and an RBI. Tara McIntyre's inside-the-park homer was the difference for the Blazers (25-7, 14-3).

- Kaleigh Wynne pitched a five-inning three-hitter and went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as Chattanooga State beat visiting Jackson State 8-0 in TCCAA softball and then went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs in an 11-3 victory. Also in the first game, Lillie McCrary was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Devan Brown was 2-for-3 with a double, a game-ending three-run homer and another RBI for the 17th-ranked Lady Tigers (23-5, 13-1). Second-game pitcher Abby Hicks allowed five hits and two earned runs while Courtney Condon was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Haley Johnson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Colbie Thomas was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

- Covenant won 7-5 and 3-0 in a USAS doubleheader at Mary Baldwin. Jordan Brett set a Covenant record for career hits, 178, with a two-run homer in game two, when Carsyn Stone allowed five hits in six innings and Tyler Epes pitched a hitless seventh. Shade Epes was 3-for-3 and Madalyn Ames was 2-for-4, each scoring a run for the Lady Scots (18-10, 11-5). Casey Grover was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in game one.

- Sewanee lost 10-0 and 17-7 to visiting Rhodes in SAA softball. Caroline Sweetin was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and Rachel Hoffman hit a two-run homer for the Tigers (1-19, 0-10).

Lacrosse

- Lee's first-year women's lacrosse team lost 18-5 to visiting UVA-Wise (6-2) on Friday, but Hanah Rotello had four goals and Abby Sanders made nine saves for the Lady Flames (0-8).

- Kelly Thomsen scored the first three goals of the match, two minutes apart, and added an assist as Sewanee rose to 9-1 in women's lacrosse with a 15-9 defeat of visiting Southwestern on Friday. Catherine Crigler, Brooke Winfield, Alden Woolford, Phoebe Stirm and Mary Kate Myers added two goals each - Crigler with two assists and Winfield, Woolford and Stirm with one apiece - and Anna Comer had two assists with a goal for Sewanee. Brianna Young allowed only two goals and made 10 saves.

- The Sewanee men lost 15-8 Friday night at Lynchburg but got four goals and two assists from Peter Brown and two goals from Will Pratt.
