Steven Fox set to defend State Open title

As usual, a group of Chattanooga-area or -connected golfers will be playing next week in the 67th Annual SunTrust State Open Championship at Gallatin, Tenn. They are led by former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga standout and U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox, who is the State Open defending champion.

Current UTC players Brooks Thomas and Wes Gosselin and former Mocs now pros Bryce Ledford, Derek Rende and Matthew Brock are among those scheduled to tee off next Tuesday at the Club at Fairvue Plantation.

Others include Council Fire pro Richard Rebne, Crossville pros Greg Wyatt and Kelvin Burgin, Tom Schreiner from Chattanooga, David Weeks from Harrison, Matt Lowery from McDonald, Mikey Feher from Signal Mountain, Spencer Scarbrough from Crossville, Brett Patterson from McMinnville, former Chattanoogan Nick Bailes (now of Nashville) and Lee University player Taylor Davis from Franklin.

The tournament is a 54-hole stroke-play competition in which the low 60 players and ties will play on the final day.
