McCallie's Ehlers commits to Cornell lacrosse

McCallie School senior lacrosse player George Ehlers committed Wednesday to play for Cornell University. He picked the Big Red from the Ivy League over Ohio State and Maryland, among numerous other schools. "He is an outstanding student leader and has amazing work ethic on the field," McCallie coach Troy Kemp said. "Cornell is the perfect fit for George from an academic and athletic standpoint. ... He puts academics first. He wanted a school with a strong engineering program." Ehlers had 16 goals and 11 assists and won more than 60 percent of his face-offs in the 2012 season, when the Blue Tornado reached the state semifinals. Ehlers earned second-team all-state and first-team all-region recognition. "His countless hours at face-off camps, clinics and showcase events paid huge dividends. George also had an outstanding summer at Nike Blue Chip, and his face-off success was close to 100 percent at several 2012 fall recruiting showcase events," Kemps said. "I am very excited to see how he does in 2013."
