Northwest Whitfield

New area Georgia head football coaches are Heritage's E.K. Slaughter, Sonoraville's Jim Kremer, Coahulla Creek's Chad Barger and Chattooga's Charles Hammon.

Austin Cole spent his middle school days figuring that he'd play golf at Northwest Whitfield. But then Coahulla Creek High School opened and he chose to attend the new school and be part of the inaugural Colts golf team.

After down-to-the-wire regular-season races, Chattanooga-area high school baseball teams begin their seasons of no return this week.

Ryan Scoggins has spent most of the 2014 soccer season trying to mold his young Northwest Whitfield boys' team into a playoff contender. Starting today, he will be able to see if all of his hard work has paid off.

TUNNEL HILL, Ga. — Diego Peralta and Edwin Hernandez are, in many ways, typical American teenagers with a love for the sport they grew up on.

LaFayette High School golf coach Tom Langford thought for a moment that his team had seized control of the Georgia Region 7-AAAA championship Tuesday at Nob North Golf Course.

Several playoff positions are still up for grabs in northwest Georgia as the regular season ends this week.

Postseason baseball berths are being sewn up in northwest Georgia, but even though some teams have already secured their playoff appearance it doesn't mean the next week isn't crucial. In fact, a crucial win or loss in the last few regular season games can mean the difference between favorable or unwanted seeding.

DALTON, Ga. — It was a gutsy move at the start of a three-game series but one Todd Middleton felt was necessary. Of course, when Plan B involves Seth Pierce maybe it's not much of a gamble.

The injured mouth and dental repair for one player and the staples in the head of another eventually will be forgotten, but Arts & Sciences baseball coaches, players, administrators and fans never will forget the heart-felt hospitality and sympathy extended by host Marion County after two Patriots players collided during a game last week.

The halfway mark of the Georgia high school baseball region schedules is here, and little has been decided in the Chattanooga area.

Dalton responded to rare early deficit and came back to dominate Northwest Whitfield on the way to a — victory.

TUNNEL HILL, Ga. — Over the course of a normal baseball season more games will be decided by the execution — or not — of the little things.

A baseball coach can learn a lot about his team when it plays the same opponent for the third consecutive day, especially when it's early in the high school season.

There are three tournaments on the first weekend of Tennessee high school baseball, and at least 13 teams will be hosting games in McMinn Central's Playing for a (cancer) Cure tournament, the Scenic City Classic and the South Pittsburg Invitational.
