Ridgeland

Storyline: The Red Raiders have lost four straight games -- to the state's top three teams in Division II-AA and to an Oakland team ranked among the best in Class 6A -- and are looking for momentum before the playoffs. Defensively, Baylor needs to get better quickly as it has allowed more than 30 points per game in this four-game slide.

Storyline: Since a season-opening loss to Knox Catholic, the Irish have posted eight consecutive wins with an average victory margin of 34 points.

Some of their situations may seem dire, but the great majority of football teams in the northwest Georgia area still have postseason lives to play for with three Friday nights to go in the regular season.

Storyline: After playing tough against top-ranked Brentwood Academy last week, Baylor has another rugged task in this Division II-AA East/Middle Region game.

Although the match was against an opponent her team knew well, first-year Gordon Lee volleyball coach Tricia Goodwin said she thought her players were a little nervous Tuesday at the start of the Lady Trojans' postseason opener. But the jitters didn't last long.

• Baylor (5-3, 2-2) at Ensworth (6-1, 3-1), 8 • Bradley Central (2-5, 0-3) at Soddy-Daisy (4-4, 1-3) • Central (6-2, 3-2) at Hixson (6-2, 4-0)

Storyline: The Eagles complete the Scenic City swing after coming to town and blasting McCallie last week.

Ridgeland and Sonoraville will be among the area teams competing today when the GHSA volleyball state playoffs get under way.

Soddy-Daisy quarterback Hunter Maynor may have been unsung entering the 2014 high school season, but it's unlikely that he is being overlooked.

• district/region game • Bradley Central (0-3, 2-5) at McMinn County (2-1, 2-5) • Brainerd (2-2, 2-6) at Tyner (1-2, 1-6) • Brentwood Academy (7-1, 3-1) at Baylor (5-2, 2-1)

Storyline: The Red Raiders rake their show to Murfreesboro after a tough rivalry loss to McCallie. Baylor's offense never got going last week, and its defensive front will be tested this week against an Oakland offensive line that includes University of Tennessee commitments Kyle Oliver at TE and Jack Jones at OT.
