McCallie lacrosse trio sign to play in college

McCallie's Noah Hanover has signed scholarship papers to continue his lacrosse career at NCAA Division I member Mercer University, and Blue Tornado teammates Reed Butler and Bennett Krishock signed Division III commitments to Birmingham-Southern and Colorado College, respectively.

Butler and Krishock were part of the 2009 and 2010 state championship teams, while Hanover is in his first year at McCallie. While adding experience to the Tornado defense, he has 14 ground balls and an assist in the young 2011 season.

Midfielder Butler leads the team with 12 goals and also has four assists after recording 11 goals and five assists in 2010. Krishock, the Tornado's only returning starter from a year ago, has seven goals and six assists. He scored 21 goals last season.

"All three exemplify leadership on and off the field," McCallie coach Troy Kemp said in a school release. "Their effort affects play on both ends of the field.

"Bennett's relentless pressure often creates turnovers that lead to scoring opportunities for McCallie. Reed does an outstanding job on both ends of the field. He is a sharp shooter who also does a great job winning face-offs for us. Noah plays close defense and long-stick midfield. He creates transition opportunities with his speed and excellent stick skills."

Kemp said all three have the potential to help their college teams as freshmen.
