Ooltewah High School basketball player Jervon JohnsonJervon Johnson recently signed to continue his basketball career at Lee University.
The 6-foot-2 Ooltewah High School senior finished his three-year varsity career with 1,641 points, with 323 3-pointers. He averaged 21.6 points and 5.1 rebounds for the Owls, choosing the Flames over UNC-Asheville, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech, among others.
"They've been on me since the beginning of the season," Johnson said Saturday. "I really like the coaching staff and felt comfortable there. I think I can go in and do a lot there."
The Owls finished 27-5 and advanced to their first-ever Class AAA state-tournament appearance and first trip to the state since 1980. They were ousted in the state quarterfinals by eventual state champion Memphis Central, falling 67-54.
"We were very excited about making it to state," Johnson said. "We made it our goal and we had to work very hard, but we got there."
Currently undecided about his major, Johnson mentioned sports medicine or business management as possibilities.
Lee's finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 20-9 record and a trip to the NAIA Division I national tournament, where they fell in the first round to Georgetown (Ky) College.
