There were at least five television cameras at Notre Dame High School on Friday, and they still had trouble keeping up with Cameron Wynn.

Sometimes at quarterback and other times from running back, receiver and wing in the team's single-wing formation, the Tennessee-committed junior ran 12 times for 293 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Irish to the Division II-AA East championship.

Notre Dame won 39-15 over Chattanooga Christian in clinching only the second region championship in Charles Fant's near-decade as the coach.

"It's an amazing feeling. We've been in some great regions and played some great teams," he said. "CCS came to play. I just told the kids we wanted to make sure we were one point better at the final gun. The kids didn't want to be denied."

The Irish finished region play 6-0 and could wind up hosting all of their postseason games up to the state final in Cookeville.

The Chargers were handicapped from the outset, playing without starting quarterback Dylan Clark, but they made a game of it for a while, closing to within 14-8 early in the second quarter and 21-15 with 2:49 left until halftime.

Re-enter Wynn, who scored on runs of 52 and 81 yards to finish the first two periods with four touchdowns and 267 of his total yards.

"It's all about the blocking," Wynn said. "The offensive line and the other backs did an excellent job."

His performance allowed him to easily top the 1,000-yard mark.

"Whether he's catching the ball or running, you give him a little space and he can go," Fant said. "He ran angry tonight, and he's finally seeing the cutbacks."

Notre Dame used eight backs in its running game and netted 453 yards on 31 carries and added 50 passing yards.

The passing game was pretty much shelved but the Air Raid is alive and well.

"The last couple of weeks we've had some drops on some good throws, and we're looking forward to taking the next couple of weeks to work on that," Fant said.

The Irish defense was also stiff, although the Chargers' Mondo Ellison ran for 165 yards (on 23 carries) with TD runs of 31 and 60 yards. CCS, though, managed just 8 yards from the rest of the offense and had no passing yards.

Notre Dame went up 14-0 on runs by Wynn and Landon Allen before CCS scored on Ellison's 31-yarder. Less than a minute later, however, Wynn broke loose again, this one for 79 yards. Ellison scored from 64 yards out, but Wynn then had scoring runs of 52 and 81 yards to give the Irish a 33-15 advantage at halftime.

They added a final score midway through the third quarter on a 53-yard run by Trea Johnson.
