McCallie tops CCS 21-0 in storm-shortened game

The electrical power went out at Chattanooga Christian's Stanton Field on Friday night, bringing an early end to the Chargers' football season opener against McCallie.

But that didn't keep the Blue Tornado's offense from displaying all the power that was expected of it this season before the game was called with McCallie on top 21-0 at halftime.

Striking three times early with lightning-bolt efficiency, the Blue Tornado scored on a 75-yard run from sophomore running back B.J. Harris with less than two minutes gone in the game. It was a perfect example of why Harris is already drawing serious interest from Southeastern Conference schools, including South Carolina and Tennessee.

Not that Harris is the only Tornado weapon. Less than three minutes into the second quarter, senior Shannon Walker ripped off a 77-yard scoring run. Then junior quarterback DeAngelo Hardy connected with fellow junior Thompson Byrd for a 34-yard scoring pass later in the second period. Stone Roebuck kicked all three extra points.

Because this was a nonregion game, it will not be completed at a later time. McCallie will head into next Friday's home game against Madison Academy with a 1-0 record. Chattanooga Christian will stand 0-1 when it travels to Howard on Friday.
