Gertrude Harmon

Gertrude M. Harmon, 97, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1915 in Chamblee, Ga., but had lived most of her life in Lookout Valley and was retired from Memorial Hospital where she worked as a nurse for many years. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Dosha Crane Mitchell and was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harmon; brother, Dick Mitchell and her sisters Lela Malone and Zona Henley.Survivors include several nieces and nephews and many friends who were like family to her. A special friend and caregiver Robert Clark enabled her to remain in her home. She was an active member of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church and Women in the Church organization. She and her late husband Paul were active in a square dance group for many years. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends in her home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 3111 Kellys Ferry Road, Chattanooga, TN 37419.Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in the East Chapel with the Rev. Walter Gienapp officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens West.The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road.
