Lucile Appleton

Lucile "Aunt Lou" Viola Sims Appleton departed from this life on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, after a short illness.She was the second of four daughters born to Will and Millie Thomas Sims, born April 20, 1912 in Clarke County, Athens, Ga.Lucile was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church until her health declined. Lucile celebrated 100 years of life on April 20, 2012 and was blessed to have a very sharp mind until her last days.She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Burris Appleton; three sisters, Miss Annie Bell Sims, Miss Hattie Sims and Mrs. Elizabeth Sims Robinson Smith; and one niece, Miss Dorothy L. Hill.She leaves to cherish her memories, one niece, Mrs. Hazel Robinson Bowles; one nephew, Mr. James O. Bowles Jr., both of Chattanooga; two great-nieces, Mrs. Pamela Bowles-Moore (Dwayne) of Powder Springs, Ga., and Ms. Janel O. Bowles of Atlanta; one great-great-niece, Cheryn J. E. Moore, of Washington, D.C., one cousin, Mrs. Wynona H. McGhee, of Chattanooga, and a host of devoted long time neighbors and friends.Special heartfelt thanks for the excellent care provided by the staff, doctors, nurses and social workers at St. Barnabas, Memorial Hospital, Southern Oaks Assisted Living, NHC, her longtime primary care physician Dr. Selmon T. Franklin and her dear friend, Wendy Davis who held her hand to the end.The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Careathers officiating. The interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
