Edna Gilliam

Edna L. Walton Gilliam, 77, of Chattanooga went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, while confined at a local Hospice care facility.She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Goldie Walton; loving husband James C. Gilliam.Edna accepted Christ at an early age and exercised her musical talents as soloist and musician at several churches in the city and other areas with her longest tenure at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a 1955 graduate of Howard High School and retired from the Chattanooga School Food Service Dept. after 29 years.Edna leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Christopher L. (Sharon) Walton, of Chattanooga; grandson, Christopher Kazuo and Alicia Haru Walton, all of Japan; dear sister, Dr. Samella W. Junior-Spence, of Nashville, Tenn.; Aunt, Lillie Head, Chicago, Ill.; Many more kindred, friends, and loved ones. Much love goes to Standifer Place Hospice care persons for their compassionate help.Visitation will be today 6 to 7 p.m. at Advantage Funeral Home, 1724 McCallie Ave. Celebration, Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 11:30 a.m. at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Charles E. Moore.Interment: National Cemetery.
