Helen Akins

Helen Juanita "Boosie" Alexander Akins, 83, transcended to her heavenly home on Monday June 17, 2013 in a local healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 26, 1929.She attended East Fifth Street School, accepted Christ at Olivet Baptist Church and later became a member of New Monumental Baptist Church. She was a Rooster Channel Jumpers C.B. Club and retired with over 30 years of service at Erlanger Medical Center.She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elsie Willis; husband, Richard Lee Akins; sisters, La Faye Boone, Elsie Robinson, Louise Haley, Willette David and Fannie Lee Swope; brothers. William Willis Jr., and LaJuan Willis.She leaver to cherish her precious memories five children: Blonzine Morris, of New York, Charles (Carolyn "Frosty") Alexander, Verdell Woodley, Anthony Knox and Rosalyn Dodson all of Chattanooga; two sisters Kay Frances (Vic) Maddox and Willette (Jack) Heathington; one sister-in-law, Eloise Oattes all of Chattanooga; ten grandchildren and a host of many other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held Noon Monday, June 24, at New Monumental Church with Pastor Roderick Ware officiating and Dr. Virgil Caldwell, Eulogist. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.Helen will lie-in-state today from Noon until 7 p.m. and the family hour will be from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Funeral Cremation Services Franklin Strickland Pinkard Bryan Smith Funeral Directors 1724 McCallie Avenue. 423-265-4414.
