Harry Folkner

Harry Folkner, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. Harry attended Mountain Creek School and Red Bank High School where he played football and boxed in the Golden Gloves. He proudly served aboard the USS Bremmington in the US Navy. He had a long career with Signal Mountain Cement Company and was a lifelong member of Hill City Masonic Lodge. Harry loved the Cumberland Plateau and will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jenny Folkner; brothers, Herschel, William and Robert Folkner.A loving husband, father, grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara Folkner; daughters, Judy Folkner and Jean Folkner; son, Dan (Mary Ellen) Folkner; granddaughter, Ashley (Callaway) Sexton.The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 p.m. today Sept. 30, at the North Chapel.Graveside services for Harry will follow at 2 p.m. today at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with John Turner, Mayor of Collegedale officiating. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Harrys name to Hospice of Chattanooga or your favorite charity.
