Jay McElhaney Jr.

John William "Jay" McElhaney Jr., 94, of Harrison, died April 4, 2014. He was born July 8, 1919. Jay was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Hazel Lively McElhaney; infant son, Wayne Terry McElhaney; parents, John William McElhaney Sr. and Rhoda Dyer McElhaney; and three brothers; and three sisters. He was a member of Harrison Baptist Church. Jay served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His love for reupholstering furniture led to the establishment of McElhaney Upholstery which continues today with his son and grandson. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Martha McElhaney; grandchildren, Stephanie and Chad Parson, Valerie and Josh Fancher, Matthew and Megan McElhaney; six great-grandchildren, Chloe Parson, Emma Parson, Colin Stepp, Steele Fancher, Mia McElhaney and Morgan McElhaney. The family would like to thank the staff at Morning Pointe at Greenbriar Cove, as well as the nursing staff and doctors at Memorial Hixson for their concern and compassionate care of Jay. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Kenneth McElhaney officiating. The family will receive friends from 48 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
