Bill Flautt, Jr.

Bill Flautt Jr. William "Bill" Frierson Flautt Jr., 72, of Red Bank, died here Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, of complications following surgery. He was a retired insurance executive in the Mississippi Delta before moving to the Chattanooga area. A longtime resident of Sumner, Miss., where he headed his family's business, Flautt Insurance Agency, he was born in Memphis, Tenn. and was the son of the late William Frierson Flautt and Mary Windham Flautt. Following graduation from West Tallahatchie High School, he attended Spring Hill College, and graduated from the University of Mississippi. As an officer in the U.S. Air Force, he served on active duty in Turkey and the U.K. An Eagle Scout, he was active as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Elizabeths Catholic Church in Clarksdale, Miss., where he sang in the church choir. In Chattanooga, he was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving him are his wife of 42 years, Inger Hegland Flautt, of Chattanooga; two daughters and their families, Kristin and Deron Zeppelin and sons, Erik and Luke Zeppelin, of Fort Mill, S.C., and Ingrid and Charles Dysinger and son, Aiden, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Panny Mayfield, of Clarksdale, Miss.; and children, Owen and Stephanie Mayfield, of Seattle, Julia and Paul Ott, of Jackson, Miss., and Laura Mayfield, of Memphis, Tenn; and Emma Crisler; and children, Sarah Cristler-Ruskey and John Ruskey. Services will be held at noon today at St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, with Father Charlie Burton officiating.
