Dillis Brooks

Dillis Charles Brooks, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 11, 2014, reuniting with the love of his life, Charlene B. Brooks. His presence will be missed and his memory will be celebrated by his family and friends. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service and from the U.S. Post Office after 20 years of service. He also worked and served in his church since 1971. Mr. Brooks loved to play golf, he loved his country and he especially loved his family. His Church friends, golf friends and neighbors were also important to him. He was born in Tazewell, Tenn. to James and Clevie Brooks. He was a very loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother and uncle. He was a member and volunteer at Christway Community Church of Ooltewah (formerly Central Baptist Church of Woodmore). His church played a large part in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 59 years, Charlene B. Brooks; and his brother, Al Brooks. Survivors include his sister, Imogene (Charlie) Brown; children, Linda Ratto and husband David Little, Deb Belk, and Michael Brooks and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Chad (Dana) Ratto, David (Lavens) Brooks, Grace Brooks (fianc Kenny Ratchford); great-grandchildren, Nick and Emma Ratto; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road with the Rev. John Waters and the Rev. Don Sapp officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. today and from 12 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Chattanooga for all of the love and care they gave to Dillis.
