Virginia Ruth Close, 90, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014. She was a member of Kingspoint Baptist Church. She retired from J.C. Penney after more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ada Davis Vaughn; husband of 43 years, Todd Close; son, Emory Shipp; brother, Earl Vaughn; sister, Fannie Newton. Survivors include her son, Edward Close, of Knoxville; sister, Frances Tucker, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Pam Hass, John Shipp, Suzy Shipp, Kristie Close and Callie Fishel; great-grandchildren, Kristen Wolfe, Nicholas Allen, Katie Hass and Alexis Fishel; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Minister Tim Marrs officiating.
