WILMINGTON, Del. Carol King Baker passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.Born in Chattanooga, she was the daughter of Theo F. King Sr. and Hilda Hager King. She attended the Bright School and graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga. She attended Randolph Macon Womens College and graduated from The University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. The Chi Omega chapter at what is now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga continues to award the Carol King Activities Cup annually to a Chi O who is most involved in the community.Mrs. Baker moved to Wilmington in 1952 with her husband, Robert H. Baker Jr, who worked in the Textile Fibers Division of E. I. Dupont de Nemours & Co. Mrs. Baker spent her career as a guide and lecturer at Winterthur Museum where she specialized in early American needlework and silver. She was active in the Junior League of Wilmington and served a term as President. Mrs. Baker was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years. She is survived by two sons, Robert H. Baker III, of Columbia, S.C. and Ted K. (Susan) Baker, of Newark; and granddaughter, Lauren McGowan of Wilmington. In addition he is survived by a brother, Ted King, of Chattanooga; nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank the staff of the Methodist Country House and Delaware Hospice for their care for Mrs. Baker.A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pennsylvania Avenue and Rodney Street, Wilmington at 11 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 22, 2013.Interment will be private.Memorials may be made to Chi Omega Sorority, Attn: President Layne Rainey, University of Tennessee, 850 Oak Street, Chattanooga, TN 37403.Arrangements by Chandler Funeral Homes,, 302-478-7100.
