Exie Vaughn Whitbeck, 88, of Hixson, went home to her Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, after an extended battle with Alzheimers Disease.Exie was born in Marshall, Mo., on Sept. 26, 1925. She attended Central Missouri College, was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and a faithful member of Chattanooga Chapter QPEO Sisterhood and member of St. Peters Episcopal Church. She and her husband were avid Boaters and members of the United States Power Squadron.She was preceded in death by her husband, "Whit" Whitbeck; her brother; two sisters; and son-in-law, James O. Heppner.Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Hepner, of Sarasota, Fla.; son, Al Whitbeck of Hixson; granddaughters, Lauren Brightwell, of Chicago, Ill., and Kate Brightwell, of Austin, Texas; stepgrandson, Jamie Hepner, of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Catherine Galatas, of Kansas City, Mo.; and future daughter-in-law, Michelle Hyndman; along with numerous relatives and friends.A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013.
