Wanda Smith

Wanda Dean Acuff Smith, 80, of Chattanooga passed away on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Wanda was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an incredible lady, with a wonderful, bubbly personality, always happy, and excited about each day. She never met a stranger, and was always giving to others. She had a love for life, with many friends, and enjoyed spending time with family. Her kind words and willingness to help and give to others have touched many lives. She will forever live in the thoughts and memories of all who knew her. She was the founder and owner of The Dry Duck gift shop in Red Bank, Tenn., with a store later established in East Brainerd. She was a member of St. Elmo Church of Christ for more than 45 years, where she taught Sunday School classes, young women's singing classes, and participated in church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Ada Acuff; her husband Marvin C. Smith Jr.; her brothers Max Acuff and Jack Acuff; and sister, Betty Edmonds. She is survived by her three children, Marvin L. Smith III (Gretchen), of Lookout Mountain, Teresa Smith Terrell, of Chattanooga, and Kim Smith Garey (Dan), of Ooltewah; grandchildren, Maria Garey Sessions, of Ringgold, Julie Terrell Puryear, of Memphis, Elizabeth Garey, of Chattanooga, John Terrell, of Chattanooga, Sam Smith, of Lookout Mountain; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jack Acuff, of Greensboro, N.C., Steve Barnes, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Charles Puryear, of Memphis, Tenn., David Sessions, of Ringgold, Ga., Will Sessions, of Ringgold, Ga., Sam Smith, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and John Terrell, of Chattanooga, Tenn. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wanda Smith to Georgia Christian School, formally Dasher Bible School, Valdosta, Ga. or to St. Elmo Church of Christ. The family will receive friends today from 4-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home. Private graveside service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, December 3. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. at St. Elmo Church of Christ.
