Susie Winston

Susie Mae Kirk Winston, 86, went to sleep on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. She was born in Chamber County, Ala., on July 26, 1927, to Robert and Jimmie Lee Kirk. She accepted Christ at an early age. She married John H. Winston on Sept. 14, 1947. Out of their union, nine children were born. After leaving Alabama John and Susie moved their family to Chattanooga in 1954. She was a an active member of Orchard Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church until her health failed her and no longer could attend. She enjoyed reading her Bible she retired from Chattanooga City School System after 25 years. She loved God and her family. She had an amazing talent for cooking and baking. Gardening, sports, and fishing, flowers and plants. No one was a stranger at her door. She welcomed them and feed them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jimmie Kirk; her husband of 66 years, John H. Winston; daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and James Asare; a grandson, Mark A. Winston; five sisters, Mrs. Rosie Lee Hughly, Mrs. Nettie Winston, Mrs. Eula Mae Peters. Mrs. Mae Willie Smith, Mrs. Mary Jane Wilson; three brothers, Mr. Denson Kirk, Mr. Robert Kirk and John Lee Kirk; brother-in-law, James Winston. Survivors include a sister, Melinda Blakely; a sister- in-law, Doris Harris; six daughters, Juliette Winston, Barbara Winston, Brenda Winston, Johnnie (John) Baker, Johnny M. Winston, Vivian McKenzie, Connie (Ali) Panahagahi, Wayne (Susan) Winston; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Orchard Park Seventh-Day Adventist. The body will lie in state after noon tomorrow.
