William M. McMahan, 87, of Chattanooga went to be with the Lord on Friday July 5, 2013.He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church at the time of his death. He and his wife Lorna had returned to Brainerd where they had been members for many years after they returned from Watts Bar Lake where they had spent 20 years after his retirement from Conoco Oil Company. They were members of First Baptist Church in Spring City during their retirement at the lake.He was preceded in death by his wife Lorna; his parents Jesse Andrew and Lela Hale McMahan; and his sister Helen Turner and her husband. He is survived by his two sons William M. McMahan Jr., of Chattanooga and James M. McMahan, of Russellville Ark.; along with four Grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.He began his career with Kayo Oil Co. (now Conoco) in 1952 as an accounting clerk while working his way through college and retired as V.P. of Operations after 30 years of service. He enjoyed caring for the beautiful birds God created by providing food and water and enjoyed a hobby of building unique birdhouses for many years in his early retirement. His favorite bible verse was Proverbs 3:5&6 and favorite songs were "His eye is on the sparrow" and "He touched me". Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday July 9, in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
