ROSSVILLE Mary E. Newell, 80 passed away Friday, July 26, 2013. She was a native of Lineville, Ala., and had lived most of her life in the Rossville area. She retired from the K-Mart in Ft. Oglethorpe as an Assistant Personnel Manager with over 20 years of service. She was known by many as "Granny" or "Giggy" and she loved her family more than anything. Mrs. Newell loved the Lord and spent many Sundays watching the Gaither Homecoming Series. She also loved cooking, gardening, and traveling. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Pat Newell; son, Terry Newell; brothers Theron Sprayberry and Claxton Sprayberry; sister, Ruby Sprayberry; and parents, Carson and Velma Sprayberry.Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Foster, of Rossville; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Diane Newell, of Ringgold; sister, Peggy (Warren) Davis; brothers, Benny Sprayberry, Bobby (Lana) Sprayberry, and Doyle Sprayberry; sister-in-law, Margaret Sprayberry; five granddaughters, Wendy (Bob) Hayden, Christi Newell, Sheri Marie (Bradley) Allen, Kelley Newell, and Katie Newell; three great grandchildren, Hunter Hayden, Madison Allen, and Haley Allen; and several nieces and nephews.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Higgins officiating.Interment will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.The family will receive friends today from 2-6 p.m. and Monday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
