Ruth Burris Webb, 78, of Hixson, arrived in heaven on Friday, May 17, 2013.She was born to the late Melvin Burris and Daisy Burris on June 29, 1934 in Tellico Plains, Tenn. She graduated from Tellico Plains High School and moved to Chattanooga in 1952. Ruth was a former member of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of Hixson United Methodist Church, the Sam McConnell Sunday School class and the Sonrise Choir.Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and mother. When her daughters entered elementary school she became a professional seamstress working out of her home. Her reputation for quality work quickly grew, and she was always sewing for both customers and family. After several years as a professional seamstress she was employed for many years at Chandler's Fabrics, first as a clerk, and then as store manager. Her creativity and knowledge of sewing stood her in good stead during those years. For years afterward, former customers would recognize her and recall the excellent service she gave them while working at Chandler's. Ruth was also the manager of the gift shop of Erlanger Hospital for over 10 years. Again, her reputation for excellent customer service, and her talent for administration, stood her in good stead. After she retired in 1995, Ruth had even more time to play golf at Creeks Bend Golf Club. Ruth made many life long friends at Creeks Bend becuase she always had a positive attitude and was always encouraging others.Ruth and James celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 2012. Their daughters gave them a reception at the Friendship House of Hixson United Methodist. They so enjoyed seeing friends of many years, as well as family from out of town.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Kenneth Burris.She is survived by her husband, James; as well as her daughters, Jan Parker (Ken), of Soddy-Daisy, Kay Addaman (David); and grandchildren, Kendrick and James, of Atlanta. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Sarah Parker Newby (Chris); and two great-grandchildren, Tinsley and Madison, of Harrison; her sister, Willa McSpadden, of Tellico Plains; and several nieces and nephews.The family would like to express their unending gratitude to Willa for her help and support in caring for Ruth for the last few weeks. The family would also like to express gratitude to the wonderful nurses and staff at Avalon Hospice. You truly helped make Ruths last days more comfortable, and you treated her with dignity and respect.Proverbs 31:28 "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her"The family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North ChapelRuth's funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday, In the funeral home chapel with Judge Clarence Shattuck and Rev. Reed Shell officiating.Interment will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Ruths name to Avalon Hospice or Hixson United Methodist Church.Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sam McConnell Sunday School Class.Pallbearers will be David Addaman, Chris Newby, Ken Parker, Steve McSpadden, Gary Headrick and Johnny Thompson.Please share your thoughts and memories at are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory & Florist, North Chapel, Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
