Robert Lee Moates Jr., 68, died at his home on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late R.L. and Anzie Moates and preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Craig Moates. He was graduate of the University of Chattanooga, where he received his degree in engineering, and was a veteran of Vietnam War where he served in the U. S. Army and received the Purple Heart. He also was an employee of Corley Manufacturing Co. for 57 years and currently as plant supervisor. He was past Master of Volunteer Masonic Lodge #549 and a member of Alhambra Shrine. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Wynn and her husband, Ernest; son, Bob Moates, all of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Brandon and Keyshawn Wynn; brother, Phil Moates and his wife, Peggy, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Mary Thomas, of Atlanta, Ga., and Robbie Stewart and her husband, Lloyd, of Dunlap, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the East Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 11, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga (4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416).
