James W. Adams, 78, of Hixson, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at his home. James was a graduate of Central High School. He retired from Chattanooga City Police force on Dec. 30, 1988. James was the president of A-1 Barricades. He was an avid big orange fan. James was preceded in death by his mother and father, John H. and Eulah Adams. James is survived by his wife, Betty Adams; daughter, Cherie (John) Carr; granddaughter, Nicki Carr; three brothers, Jerry, Ronnie and Terry Adams; stepchildren, Brenda (Ken) Silvey, Connie (Raymond) Bennett, Carney (Norma) Freeman and Steve Freeman. The family will be receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. today, Nov. 21, and from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. The funeral service for Mr. Adams will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating. Interment to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
