Kathleen Cook LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN Sarah Kathleen Mitchell "Katie" Cook died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in Arlington, Va., from complications of an infection and dementia. She was born in Fyffe, Ala. on Sept. 19, 1931. Her parents were the late Lucy E. and Rueben D. Mitchell. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1952. She worked for a time as a home economist for Alabama Gas. She then worked as a Campfire Girls director in Iowa where she met her future husband, the late Craig Cook, attorney. They lived in Iowa for a few years and she was a homemaker before they moved to Lookout Mountain, Ga. She taught for many years at Lookout Mountain Elementary, Gillen School and LaFayette Elementary Schools. In between teaching jobs, she worked as field director for Girl Scouts of America and was director of Camp Adahi on Lookout Mountain. She was a member of New Salem Methodist Church and participated in events with United Methodist Women. She was a prolific jelly and soup maker, an avid reader and closely followed political and world events. A devoted grandmother, she is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Bob) Adams, of Baton Rouge, La., and Paige Kellogg (retired Army LTG Keith), of Arlington; grandchildren, Bryan Kellogg, Meaghan (Michael) Mobbs, Tyler Kellogg, Wimbreth (Blake) Carville and Caitlin (Jason) Braud; great-grandchildren, Pepper and Maddie Mobbs, Caden Carville and Paige Braud; two sisters, Rachel Manning and Helen Spires; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She also dearly loved her friends and neighbors in her community. Her son, Mitchell Cook, died in 1998. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at New Salem Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Dade County Library or New Salem Methodist Church.
