Otis Howard


SUMMERVILLE Otis Lee "Coon" Howard, 89, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2013, at his residence.A native of Fabius, Ala., he was born to the late Joe Henry and Amanda Hart Howard on Jan. 17, 1924. Mr. Howard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during WW II, served in the European Theatre and landed or Omaha Beach in the invasion of France. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal AR600-68, American Service Medal, WW II Victory Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a member of Sanford Lodge #62, F&AM of Florida.He was preceded in death by first wife, Willie Mae Abbott; and brother, Joseph Howard.The family acknowledges the wonderful care and kindness of Heyman Hospicecare.Surviving are wife, Linda Sue Howard; children, Ronny Lee and Karen Howard, Don "Tommy" Thomas and Cathy Howard; stepdaughter, Susan Moody; stepson, Richard James Weir; grandchildren, Aaron Thomas Howard, Austin Thomas Howard, Ashlyn Moody; great-granddaughter, MacKenna Grace Howard; nephews, Joey Wayne Howard and Michael Howard.Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the family residence, on Neal Gap Road, Summerville, with Chaplain Allen Fuller officiating; rendering Military rites will be Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion of Rome; Masonic rites by Alpine Lodge #211 F&AM.Earle Rainwater Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
