rdDr. Frederick Duke Lansford passed away peacefully, in his home on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013.He was born on July 18, 1926 in Sparta, Tenn. In 1937, he moved with his parents to the Chattanooga area and became an Eagle Scout at age 13. He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific in World War II. He received his BBA degree from University of Chattanooga in 1949 and as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, he saw active duty during the Korean War.Dr. Lansford obtained his doctorate in medicine from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, in 1956 and received additional training at Erlanger Hospital where he later taught as an associate clinical professor in Family Medicine. He was board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and was a member of the active staff of East Ridge Hospital, Erlanger Hospital, Parkridge Hospital and Memorial Hospital. He practiced Family Medicine in the Chattanooga area for 43 years with offices in East Ridge. He was a member of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, the Tennessee Medical Association, American Medical Association, Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, Chattanooga Friends Meeting and Unity Church of Chattanooga. He was also a Life Member of Mensa, a member of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity, the Chattanooga Institute of Noetic Sciences, and the Chattanooga Area Alternative Health Organization. In May of 2009, he published a book of poetry, "Songs from an Inner Silence".Dr. Lansford is survived by his three children, Dan Lansford, of Eagan, Minn., Steve Lansford, of Asheville, N.C., and Linda Lansford, of Nashville; two grandchildren, Jackson Darden and LJ Darden; two brothers, Edwin G. Lansford, of Crossville, Tenn., and W. David Lansford, of Manchester, Tenn.; and numerous nephews and nieces in the Crossville, Chattanooga and Manchester areas.A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Lane Funeral Home located at 601 Ashland Terrace.Burial will take place at Peavine Church Cemetery at 1089 Peavine Road, Rock Spring, GA 30739 immediately following the service.
