Leonard J. Carnes, 99, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at his residence.Mr. Carnes was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and retired from U.S. Stove following many years of service. He served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II.He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Peter and Sarah Davis Carnes; and by eight brothers and sisters.Survivors include his children, Roger Dale (Mary) Carnes, Ringgold, Jerry Ray (Vickie) Carnes, Benton, Tenn., Rickey Joe Carnes, Guntersville, Ala., Debra Lou Jean (Dexter) Wallin, LaFayette, Ga., and Sarah Carnes Lowe, Ringgold; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the South Crest Chapel with Ministers James Langston and Roger Carnes officiating.Burial will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with full military honors.
