Divisive partisan politics have plagued US at least since Newt Gingrich arrived on the national scene, urging his freshman GOP "contractors" to "Go Negative Early" with their caustic rhetoric.
He then turned his attention to the media owners at their 1997 gathering, imploring them to abandon the tenants of true journalism, which had served this country as "the fourth estate" for two centuries.
This complete dismissal of neutral news reporting, along with Reagan's deregulation of media ownership rules, enabled a partisan national propaganda network that had only one aim, and answered only to those who owned it: One-sided vitriol against anyone opposed to their radical plutocratic policies, 24-7, using fear, hate, prejudice, ignorance and greed, just as Hitler and Gobbels so effectively utilized in 1930's Germany. It works.
DC was once a town where opposing lawmakers could and would work out compromises over a game of tennis...Not any more, thanks to this feral and opportunistic sociopath, who has demonically altered the way our government works. Greed and lust for unopposed power and the wealth (and the sexual favors) it brings will kill our birthright of self-governing democracy, unless we restore these essential checks and balances, immediately. FOUR corporations controlled by arch-conservative plutocrats now control all that we see and hear, which is the information we need as citizens require to make the most hallowed of democratic decisions: who to elect as our leaders.
When the national voice is so polluted with partisan fools, knaves and demagogues in the service of these owners, we are no longer a democracy, but a third-world banana republic.
Welcome to the jungle, where protecting the richest 1% from the tax rate they paid under Reagan is more important than the health, well-being and employment of 99% of all Americans.
Keep electing these insatiably greedy and immoral gilded hyenas, and you will get MUCH MORE misery, guaranteed.
Nice fairy tale.
which part of blues harp's post did you find imaginary...please specify. its read out pretty accurate to me... at least to my objective sense of history.
