Once upon a time Unions had their place. Now, they're just another form of big government.
Unions are a big reason why American companies are downsizing. Our automobile companies had to be bailed out by the taxpayers while foreign automobile companies were building new plants in this country. Unions are a big reason why local and state governments are going bankrupt. If you want your company to be competitive in the marketplace, keep the unions out. Their work ethic sucks.
Technically it wasn't a bailout, it was a loan that was paid back ahead of schedule. And their are plenty of examples of local and state governments that are in financial duress without having anything to do with Unions.
Fortunately for all of us, Unions are the reason why we have laws on the books that protect us from dangerous workplaces and unfair labor practices. They served their purpose and now are a mere relic of yesteryear.
Cactus, so bad management had nothing to do with GM's problems? Seems to me that GM began tanking when it insisted on producing gas-guzzling, poorly-made rattletraps. Consumer loyalty can survive only so much disappointment due to planned-obsolescence (which was management's plan for too many years).
Also, compare the Japanese factory model which empowers workers to make decisions during the assembly process, and pays managers modestly more than the line workers . . . instead of the exorbitant, multi-million dollar salaries and golden parachutes given CEOs in the American auto industry.
Unions = Mafia
Right on Moon4kat!
Non Union = workers abused by greed-driven capitalist tyranny.
Yes sir, librul...preach it!
Any worker that is against unions are either in management, or is just plain DUMB!!!
Together WE bargain, alone YOU beg!
Yeah, that's right...force all production to Mexico. Smart move, guys. You don't see the new Audi plant sitting next to VW, do you?
American companies do that wonderful thing they have always done -- produce something the public likes and, more importantly, wants. I draw your attention to GM's infamous federal-government-directed Volt...something only the government buys [using taxpayer money]. Compare that to the highly successful Esplanade.
"Build something they want and they will buy it."
For too many years American industry [and state/local governments] were at the mercy of the ever-demanding, never-producing unions. It is time for it to stop.
If you aren't willing to work competitively for a competitive wage depending on your skill level, stay at home and "featherbed".
