Steve smith, According to a source at hcde, there are over 400 kids with hardships playing athletics outside their zone. To my knowledge they have never been challenged. Sounds like TSSAA is gonna be busy.

It must be so convenient to make up facts to support your bitter theory. " There are hardships turned down everyday" reallly? I challenge you to find a hardship waiver that has been denied at SMMHS. It is public record - so make a request to support your "facts". There are approx. 400 hardship waivers that involve student athletes in Hamilton County alone. We are not giving the "everybody is doing it defense". We are simply asking for a consistently applied ruling from the TSSAA. So Mr. Durham - I encourage you to use real facts and research to support your opnion instead of conjecture.

My Mistake, LZD. I still stand by my point, however.

I'll keep saying it until everyone gets it - SM did not grant the hardship. Hamilton County Department of Education Central Office grants these hardships - whether it is a valid reason or NOT! If they would stop granting these bogus hardships, we would NOT be discussing this - PERIOD. Dont believe me? Call the Central Office, even easier check the website, but oh wait, they removed it off there website. Interesting huh?

If a bogus hardship waiver was never granted by HCDE, this would've never occured would it? You can't play football for a school you don't attend - can you? HCDE MUST accept their portion of the guilt as well, if for nothing more than neglecting to put any restraints on these hardship requests. My guess is that there are 50-60 students who are attending SMMHS currently on "hardship". (BIG quotes)

The hardship application process starts with the FAMILY wishing to transfer - NOT the school administration. I know this process as well. Many of the hardships being approved are totally bogus - and noone is happy about thi except the families who are AVOIDING moving and paying Signal Mountain taxes and are attending a great school they are NOT zoned for.

Guess what brainiacs- Most of these kids who aren't here on NCLB approval are getting into SMMHS on what is called "hardships approvals" that are controlled completely by the HCDE central office - SMMHS has NO CONTROL. According to the HCDE website, they approve them based on only "very rare cirumstances - NOT SO - ANYONE IS APPROVED!! Just ask our HCDE employee Mr. Lee McDade!
