Richt lucks out again. Beat Carolina(no given as the game is in Columbia) and Richt "backs" into the SEC East again. Weak schedules are great. But, then it's Bama or LSU in the SECCG and another national TV embarrassment for Richt, which is getting to be a habit. Then another non-BCS bowl against another also ran. However, McGarity will be so ecstatic about the job Richt & Co. have done that another contract extension will be forthcomming on top of the 2011 extension. Such is the state of UGA football.
What does McGarity feel "pride" about? Beating eight bad football teams? Beating the worst FL team in years with a gimpy QB by four points? Getting embarassed on national TV(a habit of Richt) by a good Boise State team and a great LSU team? McGarity needs to realize that a fluke season of ten wins due to the conference's weakest schedule does not a great team make. He should do what he said he would do when Richt was going down for the third time after the Carolina game. That is, wait until after the Outback Bowl is played, a no sure thing for UGA and Richt, and then soberly reflect about the length of Richt's extension. He sould definitely not be stupid and make the same mistake the UT athletic director did with Fullmer. A decision that he, McGarity, like the UT athletic director, might live to regret. If Richt's contract must be extended, then anything over two years is making a big mistake. Anything longer would be foolhardy. Four years gives Richt time enough to prove he has "righted the ship".
