The drug wars have failed just like prohibition last century. Alcohol related problems haven't gone away and will not go away. There is always a segment of society that will abuse anything. Rather than punishing the segment that does not abuse something, lawmakers need to focus on limiting the damage (not eliminating it as that is impossible). There are both behavioral (e.g., we have made smoking a social stigma and it is on the decline) and technical (e.g., cars equipped with ignition interlock devices) options available. Neither of these options will eliminate the problem.
We also need to admit that we cannot ever eliminate all bad things. People are always going to do stupid things that hurt themselves and others. Even in police states this happens.
Well put. Neither party seems to have the leadership and courage necessary to stop the spending. We can talk about taxes AFTER the spending is cut to match current income.
I doubt anything will be done about her ineptness and dishonesty. She is in bed with the rest of the crooks running the city and they cover for one another.
Great responses to questions/accusations that many have hurled at the TFP. I especially like the responses to those who think that the paper should be a Republican mouthpiece.
I think the issue here is the double meaning implied in her comments. Had a male member of this body said "I'm flattered you're so interested in my penis," the outcry from feminist groups would have been loud and long. It was a tacky comment.
The Right response
Good responses and thanks for opening up controversial issues to public discussion

Cook: Guns kill, not autism
Neither autism or the rifle was the killer. Lanza was the killer. Why spend all that column space missing the real issue?
It's the dough, of course
