I'm no millionaire, but I don't begrudge them their money. They buy limos, jets, yachts, etc. and make jobs for us blue collar folks. Then there are some like Bill Gates who spend their fortunes to help others. It's the governments who promise equality who actually deliver -- they make everyone poor but a few of the top dogs.
The jealousy you are showing is astounding and does nothing but make you look small and bitter.
If profits are so bad, do you work for free?
Why not move to Cuba? I think the monthly wage is $30 -- oh wait, that's a profit too, but you're much closer to your ideal.
I wonder if your retirement plan depends on any business profits? Are you hoping they decline? The last I knew, profits = incentive which most people seem to need.
Profits made the US as prosperous as it is. It's fitting that profits and prosperous are so similar.
When liberals/leftists were the minority, all you could hear was 'academic freedom'. Now that they are the majority, they want to suppress all opinions but their own.
How hypocritical to practice the same behavior that they so zealously condemn!
If you can't beat them, clone them.
UTK now known as UAK.
Having traveled extensively in third-world countries, I can see that the US is quickly sliding in that direction. When a people ceases to be moral then theft, single parenting, violence, and other dysfunctional behaviors become common. How far we have already fallen since removing Christian instruction from the schools and public life! And it will only worsen as TV and other aspects of 'culture' train the children to demand immediate pleasure rather than self-discipline and the fear of God.
While real science has come a long way, evolution as a theory of origins is more stupid today than it was then. Back then there was ignorance of the intricacies of the cell; now we know that a single cell is more complex than anything man has ever created. Now we know there are NO transitional species -- ALL links are missing. No excuses to believe anything just happened!
It's true -- Americans worship their idols more than God. We will be held accountable. Scoffing will only make it worse.
This is a terrible shame. We benefit from competition in athletics, the buisness world, even health care. Monopolies always hurt people. It takes an exceptional leader to run a monopoly well, and there are very very few of those.
Serious reform of the schools is easy. Every child should be eligible for a voucher for 75% of the average cost state-wide for a child's education. Any school should be eligible to receive the voucher but must agree to core classes and standardized testing (TCAP). If the average voucher school score falls below the average public school score, that school is no longer eligible.
This would make public schools better because they will try harder, have smaller classes, and they will get 25% financial bonus. It will save the public quite a bit on those who choose the 75% option, not to mention reduced building costs. And it will make students better because those (and/or their parents) who want to be challenged can go where they will be and/or where the social environment is acceptable.
Only those schools/educators who do poorly fear such reform. We have proven here in Tennessee and all over the US that education is not dependent upon money but on motivation. Competition is the only way to ensure that. It's time to stop forcing mediocrity. Let the best schools win!
Bruce Pearl was hired because he beat Alabama in the NCAA tourney. When he entered the SEC he was one of the best coaches.
Now many of the other teams have upgraded -- including Alabama -- and he is no longer one of the best.
You'd think that kids with the prospect of becoming millionaires and heroes would discipline themselves a little more. The fact that this happens repeatedly indicates just how immature and short-sighted many are. Surely the coaches emphasize this constantly. I suppose they have to be 'weeded out' but it certainly is a disappointing cultural indicator. Maybe it's an indicator of campus culture as well.
It doesn't help that to the right of this comment as I post it is an ad glorifying alcohol consumption. If that were treated like smoking, things would change. So this paper is really part of the problem.
