I agree that selling e-cigs or personal vaporizers to minors should be illegal. None of our local shops will sell to minors even without regulation. The idea that they are targeted to children is just ridiculous. I would check to see what lobbyist group your source for that is from. E-cigs come in a variety of flavors for one simple reason, the majority of people that use e-cigs or "vape" come to dislike tobacco flavors after they have gotten away from cigarettes. I am partial to strawberries & cream myself, but often indulge in a green jolly rancher flavor. Adults enjoy sweet and fruity flavors just as much as children do. Hence the fact that you can buy fruit and candy flavored alcoholic beverages. People who "vape" are almost primarily former smokers that have or are trying to quit. It took me seven days to completely quit using my first e-cig starter kit. It did take my mother longer, a whole ten days. For the rare person that starts vaping without first being a smoker, there is nicotine free liquid that is easier to use because nicotine is harsher on the throat. No one addicts themselves to nicotine in order to vape. For sake of argument, let's just say that they did. No one who started using e-cigs first would go to cigarettes afterward. All non-smokers know how badly cigarette smoke smells. Why would anyone switch from a nice fruity or sweet mist to a nasty smoke that actually burns your throat & chest. That just isn't logical thinking. As far as the so-called potential harm that e-cigs can cause, more recent studies show that "second-hand" vapor is safer than three people breathing in a room. As far as e-cigs not being any more helpful in quitting than patches, that just is not what the studies show. 10% of people are successful in quitting using the patch and do not return to cigarettes within a year. 90% of people quit using e-cigs or more accurately "personal vaporizers" and do not return to cigarettes within a year. Those are drastically different results, mine are peer-reviewed. There is just too much evidence for people to ignore the benefits of vaping over smoking.
