Beginning in the late 1800s, unions saved thousands upon thousands of lives with their continuing efforts to force owners to upgrade their work place, give the worker a living wage, make child labor unlawful, make 18 hour workdays unlawful, create sensible retirement packages for the worker. Then, after a number of years, as usually happens, the union bosses turned into thugs and tried to amass the same fortunes as the corporations had. And they used crime bosses to help. So of course, the corporations took this opportunity to move overseas where they didn't have to worry about hours worked, days worked, how old the children were, how safe the workplace was, and how much money they deemed the lowly serf was worth.

And then, they convinced the ignorant that it was ALL THE FAULT OF THE WORKER and the ignorant believed it, even the workers. And so the Walmarts of the world started again to work the serfs for as little as they could get away with and no one said a word. Meanwhile, the lowly serf in Europe decided that the best way to conduct business was to COOPERATE with owners so that both could prosper. What a novel concept! And now, Europe's minimum wage is higher, the benefits are suitable, and the workers likely are pretty happy. At least those who work for the corporations that operate like this.

Meanwhile, back in the States, the Corporatist lackys, better known as our 'esteemed' elected officials, continue to berate the efforts of the serfs while taking bribes from any and every corporation that will line their pockets and request that they pound home that COOPERATION between workers and management makes a company as productive or more productive and keeps it's workers for a longer employment time than those who treat the help like dirt, is a LIE.

Guess what? The vote at VW is going to show that workers and management CAN work together for the good of all concerned which likely will result in a much better product because the worker will be a much more willing worker.

WOW!! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!! GO UNIONS AND MANAGEMENT!

People, this country is never going to get out of this he** hole we're in until/unless every working person is considered worthy and deserving of decent job and decent life. It's as simple as that.

There has been 2000+ years of male domination of society and you see the results world wide. Males have basically ruined our earth, all for the sake of money. I would say that women helped them, but since so few women have had a hand in running the world in all these thousands of years, that help would be negligible. As for abortions, I've always wondered what poor Mr. Huckabee and his ilk would be saying were there millions more people in the country, most of which would be poor, since most abortions are among the poor. Just think of the stink he would put up, vilifying all those poor souls he wanted born, but would now hate their guts for being born. See, you just can't please the pubs unless you have a lot of money and live in the past, sanctifying any and all attacks against women and children of the middle and lower income classes. What a sad excuse for human beings he and the rest of the wing nuts are.

I would suspect the woman would give up and go away if everyone she screams at would point and laugh at her. And if some same sex couples would stand around and kiss in front of her, she likely would have apoplexy and run away screaming herself, lest she become contaminated. This person needs to treated like what she is-a crazy laughing stock.

I would suggest that if paddling did any good whatsoever, the children of the state would not be violent. But see, when one is paddled by parents and teachers, violence is what is being taught. That and nothing else. We need to find a better way.

The walking horse industry-and that is what it is-should be held accountable for decades of animal abuse. This is one of the most disgusting examples in this country. And to what end? to say my horse can step higher than yours, and if it can't,then I'll do something to to it so that it will HAVE TO STEP HIGHER IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE PAIN! Those that do it should all be serving time in prison.

Everyone sees and believes what he/she wants to. Nothing is engraved in stone. And that's ok. It's when those who think their beliefs should be the law of the land that things start to fall apart. We need a govt. that will do for the majority instead of the monied minority. Whether anyone believes in a superior being is immaterial. Whether you believe that all people have worth is what is important. NO ONE is born and immediately wants to be a criminal, a drug addict, a poor person, a crippled person. Those things happen because of what situation the person is born into. How we, as a nation, treat and help those born into those circumstances is what will make us or break us. Right now, the fundamentalists have this thing about helping as long as the person will believe in their god. I ask them, what would Jesus do? I sincerely doubt he would ask the Samaritan to become a Jew before he would give him/her help.

Also, I have never understood why the fundamentalists insist on quoting the OT to support their views. They hardly ever seem to quote Jesus, their supposed God. Is it because he doesn't say what they want to hear? hmmmm...........

Osha, workman's comp, and other rules and regs are all for one reason-to give the worker the safety and salary that they deserve. If you don't know the history of workers and working conditions in this country, then you just need to keep quiet. Without unions, workers would all be working for 7 bucks an hour if that much. The corporations went to the third world not because they were losing money but because they refused to share their filthy riches with their employees. So now, the CEOs and other do nothings reap 120%+ what the workers do, and some of you think that is the way it's supposed to be. What is wrong with you? Do you really want to work for a company that can cheat on environmental regulations, working hour regs, working environment regs, benefits regs? Because that is what goes on in Bangladesh, China, and most other third world countries. If you work for yourself, that is your problem; if you work for a bank, does the bank pay and work you any way they wish and you take it? And you think that is how the world is supposed to work??!! Please! read up on what it was like in this country before unions and decide whether you want to go back to that. Make no mistake; If left to their own devices, 99% of the corporations would do away with every law that keeps them from making more obscene profits than they already do. I've never understood why so many people actually take part in their own destruction. amazing

"Of course, religious employers already are familiar with that type of ruling since the Obama administration is forcing them to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions, even if doing so goes against their religious beliefs."

Why is it your religious beliefs don't include opposition to war? Wars, and religious wars at that, have MURDERED more people than abortion ever will. But you support the troops that murder, you wave the flag that promotes murder, you condemn to death those that you perceive as evil. And why do most of you endorse capital punishment? It's all MURDER. But you have judged some murder to be good and some bad. Murder is murder. How can you qualify it? I don't care if you are against abortion. But why is it murder to abort but not murder to drop bombs on innocent children who are already born? It boggles the mind of any THINKING person. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either you are for life or you are not. To be for some life and not other life is beyond hypocritical. WAKE UP

Well, actually, aren't Christians supposed to follow Jesus' precepts and forget about all the nonsense in the OT? Really, few so-called Christians ever quote Jesus on anything. Oh wait, Jesus had nothing to say about homosexuality, abortion, or any other controversial thing. Wonder why? Oh, I think I know! Treat others the way YOU want to be treated. Love your fellowman as you love yourself. God is LOVE, and on and on. The point is, according to Jesus, ALL people are worthy under God and to exclude any person based on things that have NO bearing on their value as human beings is NOT following Jesus. What would you prefer as a friend-a homosexual that would give you the shirt off his back, or a fundamentalist who thinks no one is worthy unless he says they are? Me, I prefer the homosexual every time. There but for an accident of birth go each and every one of us. The very idea of treating people differently according to some outlandishly outmoded, hateful book is beyond comprehension.
