This is a sad tragedy! I know Ms.Reed from my teenage years. She was a beautiful bright individual with a great future. Lost contact and saw her recently and to say the least she didnt seem to be in good condition. And now this! My prayers goes out to the family of Shaviya Vinson but also to Temekia Reed.

This may seem stupid to say but I am all into freeways and geography. I could research this stuff all day. What smooth cat stated is correct. I hated when those signs disappeared. Most medium size to large cities have the 3 number extension interstates ie I-440 of Nashville or I-285 of Atlanta. These are used for either bypasses like I-285 or "spurs" which serve as connectors I believe like I-575 to Huntville or I-124... Didnt mean to say all that : )

The way this plan looks, my community will get a new councilman. But its Manny Rico.. Hmm Andrae McGary or Manny Rico. I'd rather have the lesser of the two evils which is Andrae. Even though Andrae developed a big head and lost his "down to earth quality," I still believe he is a great councilman. Manny Rico is not someone who I will support. Especially after his fiasco with Rep Tommie Brown who has done much to help the community. We can agree to disagree but Id rather have a new candidate than Manny Rico....

I just hope that my councilman Andrae McGary starts to pay closer attention while he's trying to make a political name for himself. I am once again reminded of how quickly he forgot the people who elected him after he won his seat. Very sad situation. Hopefully another viable candidate who will actually be truthful will come around.

Anyway. Although I tend to agree with the NAACP on some things, I believe that 3 majority and 1 swing district will suffice. I didnt see but maybe I misread. What would be the swing district? Would it be District 8?

There was a great downtown high school i.e. kirkman technical high school. A school in which many of my older relatives went to. This is quite interesting how we've come full circle in considering opening ANOTHER downtown high school. CSAS and CSLA should both be k-12 and have a school zone and a lottery process. Normal Park seems to hand pick their students. If all schools could do that, then they could all be schools of excellence. As a teacher myself I know that many of us all doing all we can and more to make these schools great. More parent involvement and community support is needed. Howard at one time was a stellar school and it is getting back to that. It takes parents, the school staff, community, and of course the students to make these schools successes. Normal Park has done it. Any other school can do it.

@ Redlegs, love your sarcasm. Ive been to normal park as a sub and its a great school but many of the staff act as if its a private school. It just does not seem logical to bus students to red bank middle when they could walk less than a mile for the most part to normal park. Its about time. The author cites someone saying that they tried to include these residents in coming to the school but the did not want too. I wonder how true that is.

Once again memphis you are wrong but I will agree to disagree with you. Oh will you look at that. Just looked up the recent shootings and none in this neighborhood. Seems like youre making stuff up now... hmm... interesting. Our neighborhood is far from perfect we still have our issues but it is not what it used to be. Broke down buildings? yes we still have those. All work in progress. I do not want to exhort anything from UTC. Now you just sound delusional. Take a drive through and see for yourself before you make more delusional statements.
