karalynn: I hope this story get more recognition, that would be good for for him and for other victims to come after. This shouldn't be done to anyone else.
Yes. I hope more comes out of it. They should have put "student was killed," not inmate. I hope the truth will be set free & brought out.
He was not a criminal. He did not have a criminal background, he did have minor charges on car violations, but not major offenses. To be pulled over by 6-10 police cars on 1 individual, told to get out of his car, hand cuffed, tazed, beaten to the ground, taken away & hours later reported dead is ridiculous. Till this day, there is still no police report. We hope there is a Federal Investigation on this matter because the whole local system in Chattanooga is corrupt.
i wish we could do more to get this story out. Everything u said was true.
The last part of this story about Gihon's misdemeanors offenses, not felonies, which happened in his teenage days when he was in college, is just a way to discredit his dignity and label him as a typical black man, as what Chattanooga thinks of all it's black males. He did not deserve to die this way. Gihon your spirit lives on.
Some of the comments on here about medicare and sterotyping Gihon as a criminal, saying, "Do not do the crime if you can not do the time" is absolutely ignorant and ridiculous. Get your facts right before u put ur finger to a keyboard. This young man had no criminal record. He had no history of illnesses and was a victim, not a criminal. He was pulled over on minor charges pertaining to a car, was asked to get out of his car & put his hands up. He did what they told him 2 do & officer pulled out a taser & tased him in his back. Gihon fell & they took him to jail, they booked him, & said later, while in their facility, Gihon was lying on the floor (not moving). . . everything came to a stand-still in this young man's life. He died in their custody. What happened?? Who is next? Where is the JUSTICE? These are the questions we should ask. All the things he did, nominated as "Mr. Hixson", was the best student, went on a full scholarship to study electrical engineering at UTK, did 3 yrs. & excelled the best in Chemistry & Maths. His last days, attended Chattanooga State where he studied Computer Technology & won a national gold medal for the state of Tennessee, was about to be inducted into the national hornor society at the graduation ceremony Aug 13, 2011. This is how Chattanooga, Tn treats it's outstanding and genius citizens, based on profiling. God Bless America? Let this story be told to everyone.
