All I know is that despite big banks gambling with our money and giving mortgages to anyone and everyone which then crashed the economy yet they were rewarded with my tax dollars.
The fact that both political parties have fund-raisers where they can charge $1,000.00 a plate and if you pay more you get access and pictures to show your friends how powerful you are means that the common person is left out more and more.
Ban fund-raising events like this. Make politicians raise funds where $100.00 per person is the limit and that corporations are not allowed to participate then we might see some change because now the people we elect just want to stay up there and hold their hand out just like those some of those that comments on this article are complaining about.
What is funny to me is that it is so obvious that this is an event for the elite, by the elite and to avoid the people that our Representatives are supposed to be reaching out to and yet people defend them. Actually, that is not funny. Not any more.
Give me a break! Bunning and others voted for every piece of legislation during the Bush years that started our deficit towards a trillion dollars. Bush didn't know how to use a veto and he talked as if he was fiscally conservative. There was a surplus when he entered office and Bunning and the rest destroyed our budget and now act like they are so pure when they are the minority.
And tickets for $50.00-$500.00 is not drawing myself or my friends. I hope that the Amahl production is live and reasonably priced. For families and encouraging new concertgoers there has to be some other option to build a base to return opera to Chattanooga. And if the future of opera is canned performances that is particularly discouraging.
Let's see, since 1994 Rep. Wamp has introduced 30 bills, 24 did not make it out of committee and one was naming the Harrison, TN post office "Claude Ramsey Post Office." I think that is a great honor for Mr. Ramsey, but what has Zach been doing for Chattanooga/Knoxville, much less Tennessee since 1994?
Re: Ann D. Mahoney "Pursue political solution to Taliban:
I agree with Mahoney that "airstrikes are radicalizing the population 'and driving more and more Pashtuns into the arms of al-Qaida and its jihadi allies.'" I would suggest however that policies are attempting to move towards what Kilcullen and others advocate.
That being said a political solution still follows what Edmund McWiliiams, Special Envoy to the Afghan resistance in 1993 wrote: "the principled U.S. posture of letting Afghans find solutions to 'their problems' fails to take into account a central reality; Intense and continuing foreign involvement in Afghan affairs-by friendly and unfriendly governments and a myriad of well-financed fundamentalist organizations-thus far has precluded Afghans from finding 'their own solutions.'"
Yes, if one could trust the outcome of an Afghan election that would be a start, but I am not sold on that yet.
Republicans bailed out AIG first and did not make any stipulations. So typical of Wamp et. al. to blame the other party for what they all share a blame for.

Bravo! Great choice!

Allied Arts facing across the board cuts
last year Allied Arts helped with the 45 million dollars that the city of chattanooga had spent due to arts. i think that is better than a water park.
Sen. Al Franken
No one will ever know for sure which candidate for the President of the United States really won the election in 2000.
