TRECIA GAYLE, I understand your sympathies toward a noble breed of dogs. I have had similar experiences as you, but....there is often a but and it is not as simple as you think. It has happened to me.
It is similar to the difference in owning a scatter gun and/or a hand gun of reasonable capacity (civilian weapons) to AR 15 type weapons with high capacity magazines.
I would add that raising them in a well thought out program of non aggression turns out a wonderful gentle pet with the potential to revert under the "right" or wrong circumstances.
There are some great obedience trainers and programs that work well, but one should not be deluded that a non threatening looking (AR) Pit will only revert to type in the face of a Cougar attack, like Old Yeller. There are many triggers and they are not all known.
Hotdang....I'm liking what I'm seeing on this board, from anniebelle and friends. I saw a cartoon from your Chat. Times pertinent to what is happening in my Red State backwater on accepting Medicaid. Thought I'd check you out. I had the wrong impression about you. It crept up on me like moss over time, apparently.
I was looking for a place to move back too after being in Florida all of my adult life (coming from Tn though). Travelling back and forth to visit family I visited your city and really liked the people friendly amenities etc but was discouraged when I would tune in to your local radio as I'd pass through. It was the same ole Right Wing hate pabulum we suffer in Ft Myers.
It's good to see sanity survives in my home state and maybe I'll give it another look.
It’s a shame Bob Miller wrote such a cogent letter about how out of whack education costs are,(along with all the wealth and income distribution) then spoiled it with that nonsensical reference to Socialism. I was relating perfectly until then. Ending it like that left me vacillating between inspired and exasperated.
Sorry Bob; good effort though. For future reference just look up the definition of Socialism and consider if it really has anything like a dominant role in this staggering democratically elected Republic Capitalistic nation.
This is very encouraging - not the resistance of Chamber, but the possibility of a return to the working class getting their due as a critical component of a working society.
They have been crushed by a misguided anti-union drive from political hacks masquerading as new Conservatives or the Tea Party. Not saying greed and fool hardiness didn't live in the union halls of old, but, a healthy well paid working class is every bit as essential to vibrant economy as investors willing to take risks and dive into the entrepreneurial arena.
As a former small business owner, I assure you I never produced one widget beyond my personal needs without a place to sell it. Workers with jingle in their pockets buy the bulk of the world's widgets.
