lr103 - if you have it all figured out - offer your suggestions to Mr. Hightower as an article to publish. 1st - let's see what he actually publishes and if it truly conveys what you meant. 2nd - let's see if your ideas can spark some real change from this community - I sure hope it can - Chattanooga can be great if the right people can get it under control before it's too late! And a bit of advice - leave the usual segregation and ethnic crap out of the solution and more people will listen.

fftspam - then Mr. Reid should make it part of his standard contract that security (real officers) be hired for during and after each event where alcohol is offered. And that underage youth are not served.

lr103 - the segregating is mainly coming from the black community itself! They are segregating themselves and then people like you try to blame the white.

LR103 - are you claiming we do not have a gang problem in the city? And are you also claiming that the violence (I am not talking drugs) in the city is not mostly black on black crime? You realize it is the ones who were shot or the witnesses who claim they saw noone! They are the ones covering up for their own or wanting to seek their own revenge. If they would just talk about the problem - then maybe just maybe the police can do what they are paid to do - bring the bad guys to justice. And then let the judicial system send them back out to start the whole cycle again.

328k-if you were not standing at said press conference than I think you need a reality pill. Media sensationalism is as much as fault as the men quoted. The media ask questions, but do not publish everything that is said. They get to pick & choose what they publish & for what? Create outrage or sympathy or whatever emotion they are targeting for that specific written piece.
In fact it is words chosen carefully to ignite responses from people hiding behind a computer. The newspaper media are out to get a rise from people like you and me or otherwise their jobs might go away. Don't you think they sit back & have weekly celebrations on which article (journalist) gets the most comments from their newsworthy articles? You just fed into it & so did I. Although I do not care for our current Mayor for MANY reasons, and others in some of the higher elected positions; I do not base my opinions on what is put in the media. I base my opinions on what is proven in how they carry out their positions (decisions that are documented). Do I think Mr. Reid is totally responsible–No. Do I think he is reaching out to a lost group of youth that need direction from someone-YES. Does he need to change some aspects of how is doing this-once again YES. Does he need to continue to try to reach this group of youth who have no direction-most definitely! And I think other community leaders should join the effort. We have a whole generation who will be the leaders one day and a huge majority of them have no guidance or direction and finally no discipline to achieve better things for themselves and those they care about. Do I think the police need to be more involved in Mosaic events-oh yes! Do I hold them responsible for troubled youth who think violence is the only way of life-NO! The police are no more responsible than Mr. Reid. The problem is Mr. Reid provided the assembly place with no measures of control. Having only 2 real police officers there for an event that is more than likely to get out of control is crazy! Police are at every sports event in the area - even HS ball games (the host school is required to provide security)! If a previous game had issues-they bring more officers for the next time the 2 teams meet. Common sense.
Mr. Reid should use some common sense on HUGE events such as what happened on Christmas Eve and for New Year's Eve-hire more security-or at least bring in more at the time of closing to ensure his youth's safety upon leaving his event. Closing an event just 15 minutes before curfew-now that is just plain crazy. He expects teens to rush home within 15 minutes-common sense should prevail. BYOB-other refreshments provided does NOT mean bring your own bible otherwise it wouldn't follow with other refreshments. BYOB is known by all ages as beer! And it doesn't even matter (well actually it does) that this is a church sponsored event-alcohol for underage youth should never be condoned! You are just asking for trouble.

Yes he is and he was charged for child molestation previously and was trying to get custody of just her 2 sons (ages 11 and 8 at the time). Wonder why??? http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/20... Maybe the police need to look back into her murder.

Children - especially a 12 YEAR OLD child is a VICTIM! Regardless of how they dress or act - they are still a RAPE VICTIM! At 12 or 13 or 14 or 15 or even 16 and 17 - they are a child without the brain maturity to understand their actions and possible lifelong consequences from their actions!
Adults are the ones that should know better than to either entice, bribe, bargain for, threaten, or even give in to a child's desire to be loved! And don't believe them when they tell you they are 18! It takes a brain to "believe" they are of age to consent, but I guess you can tell what most of these pervents think with and it is not their brain in their noggins! You will get jail time whether she told you she was 18 or not!
Just imagine if it were your daughter or grand-daughter! Just remember - they are VICTIMS in this whole mess!
STOP pedophiles NOW! Or at least report them and let them get the chance to be the victim in jail!

Shame on you for having SM in your username making assumptions like that. TSSAA is the governing body and should listen to an appeal with an unbiased mind - unlike you. It seems you have already made your opinion based on your own assumptions. Make sure you let everyone know your biased opinions if every asked to serve on a jury - they will let you go in a hot minute. Did your little one get splinters riding the bench? It's the only ASSUMPTION that I can conclude after reading your comment and seeing your username. Everyone else on SM is supporting our boys through this - whatever the outcome. If you ever walked into and spent ANY time in that school, you would know better and support the school and administration. I know they have over 50 Howard and 50 LV kids take the NCLB ride to come to this school. And they found one paperwork mistake - 99% is still an A+ at this school! So, stop trying to tear us down or change your username - you are not a SM fan!

I would have jumped on the bus to protect any child, especially one with special needs! I can't believe they charged her with 13 counts (maybe number of people on the bus?) - that is ridiculous! What a big tuff guy to pick on a deaf child - future prisoner in the making! Bus drivers are scared to get involved anymore, cause they don't want to get sued themselves. And they probably witness bullying everyday - they are numb to it anymore. I wouldn't let my kid ride on a schoolbus - no matter what. I am very fortunate that I can drop them off at school on the way to work and then have them picked up at the end of the day by friends' parents or stay after for extracurricular sports. But... most bullies have been bullied themselves - sometimes at home. I had a schoolbus bully in middle school and when I finally told my high school sister, she went to the girls house to tell her to leave me alone. The drunk father answered the door and told my sister to beat the crap outta his daughter and when she was done - he'd beat her too! I have always had a different viewpoint of bullies ever since. But - they still need consequences for their actions - someone has to tell them it's wrong and punishable! The school system lets these bullied kids down everyday - teachers, administrators, school boards (and busdrivers) - they do nothing to stop the abuse! A parent has to protect their own child or prevent their child from being in a situation where it could happen. Won't stop it all, but could help! I applaud Christa Green for what she did! Mama bear will win this hands down! I can't believe any parent of a child on the bus would want to press charges - must be the busdriver/school system. Way to go Whitwell - tell the bullies that they have free reign! I would also be interested to hear from the bully's parents - did they punish their own child?

I still dont get this. You dont want your parents to find out about your pregnancy or about you giving birth, but you leave the dead babies in the laundry basket? I guess she didnt care if they found out that she murdered her babies. Lock her away - in a mental institute for life!! That is 2 childless couples in the world still childless when they could have had a baby to love! Shame on her for only thinking of herself!
