  1. If a student legally changes addresses/schools, he/she is eligible to play a sport, regardless of whether or not they played at another school the year before.
  2. If a student does NOT change addresses, but transfers schools, they must apply to TSSAA for a hardship eligibility. Schools do this all the time. Sometimes they are approved, sometimes they are not.
  3. This student is zoned for Brainerd. When he "moved" back to Chattanooga from LFO, he should have attended Brainerd. He applied for an academic waiver to attend Signal Mt. because Brainerd is on the Target list. That is a Hamilton County decision to make, which they did. But Hamilton County, like every other school system in the state of Tennessee, has AGREED to follow TSSAA rules when it comes to athletic eligibility. Academic and athletic eligibilities are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. You cannot equate the two. No one has said that Tim McClendon shouldn't have access to an excellent education. No one has said that he will not be able to graduate. THAT is up to him and Signal Mountain High School. But it is not the place of the school (any school for that matter), the coaches, the parents or the players to state who is eligible to PLAY. And everyone at the school knew that. And for goodness' sake, please stop blaming Sequatchie County! They were going to the playoffs regardless of what Signal did, based on the strength of their record! They had no reason to turn in Signal Mt. However, it really shouldn't matter WHO turned them in--the decision was made based on the actions of SMHS. Not who turned them in.

I just hope when Signal Mt. visits Sequatchie County that the rules of the game will be followed on the field; no cheap shots, fighting, or any shows of unsportsmanlike conduct. Everyone needs to remember it is a game. Regardless of everything that has happened, both teams and all coaches need to show class and just play ball.
