I have no party affiliation; I vote for the person. In the last few years, I have voted mostly for democrats, as I cannot stomach the hate and bigotry coming from the far right. I am a social liberal and more fiscally conservative, so I don't know where I really fit. However, I sure know one thing; I will cross any party line to vote against Fleishman. Wamp most definately will receive my vote and any others I can find for him. A democrat has zero chance of winning this seat anyway. Fleishman is the biggest douche bag I have ever encountered. He refuses to speak to his anyone in the district, hides from people, and uses his pulpit like a bully. I sent him a letter against his voting record, and now the idiot and the idiots that work for him constantly and consistently send me emails and postal mail railing against the president as if I am a supporter! Such a joke. Just shows not only does he not read letters from people in his district, he doesn't care at all what you have to say. He doesn't get it at all. A member of my family went to law school with him, and said he was shocked when he heard he was running for Congress because he is so backward in dealing with people. He shrinks when around a group. I implore any Democrat or Indep. in this district to cross any and all party lines to vote against Fleishman. He needs to go and go soon, as he is a joke.

Why is it always the "Tennessee Temple", "Bible Thumping", "White Older Man" who is such a homophobe?? Mark West looks like he is hiding something. Maybe he is trying to pray the gay away and it did not work? Maybe he thinks his marriage to his Tennessee Temple beauty will keep him on the straight and narrow?? Seems to me he is the demographic ( white male, older, fundamentalist ) that always screams the loudest about gay rights. Sounds like he has a huge problem??

David...just found out and thought you might like to know that the King DB, Kevin Huffman, also known as the champion of public education sends his daughter to Harpeth Hall in Nashville!! He sure supports his "common core" BS...He is killing us teachers, doesn't support us at all, wants to destroy the system...and it's not good enough for his daughter!! What a hypocritical bastard...your pal ( you know who I am, we email )

Bravo David...I love your writing, and I am a huge fan!! I am certain this story will be on the Daily Show or the Colbert Report, and once again show our area of Tennessee to be the bigoted, judgemental, racist area that it is. I feel badly for the Coopers, but this "minister" ( ha ha ) did you a huge favor. You are now free to join a loving, caring, kind, compassionate church that follows the Real Teachings of Jesus.....LOVE...keep it up David...

Thanks once again David for standing up for teachers! You are so spot on with your opinion of Kevin Huffman..He's a total DB, and terrible for education...all of us who work in the trenches of public education thank you for consistently having our backs!!

Thanks again David for bringing a problem to the front. I agree with Timbo on one hand that teachers do need to be accountable to someone. I worked in the corporate world for many years before returning to graduate school and becoming a counselor. So I have experience with evaluations and performance appraisals in this arena. And there is some "dead-weight" in education just like in any profession. And I agree with Magenta (shocking ) that the dead weight is at the top. The trickle down is crumbs. But the dead weight in Nashville will keep justifying their existence with numbers and stats. However, the amount of money spent on testing is absurd. I don't have the answers to all the problems, but I can for sure tell you that the Tn. Dept. of Education is staffed by people who do not see human beings, they only see statistics. And as I said last week, until you get the parents/parent/guardian invested and interested in their kid's education, nothing will change. The teachers are not only responsible for teaching the kid, they are now charged with raising them too, and if something goes wrong, these are the people who are the first to complain. And the state of TN. requires Nothing from the parents. NOTHING. And before someone cries foul on my part, I am not talking ALL Parents. But we do have a massive amount of people who are taking taking from the system and giving nothing back. They scam the system, take advantage of the system, and do nothing. It's generational too. I try to get my students to understand that they need to get their diploma/degree, and they need to work and provide. Nothing should be handed out..but they are living in an environment where they see just that..hand outs and scamming. No work ethic, parents using drugs, and living off other people. Why should they graduate and get a job. They don't have to, someone else will pay them to sit at home.

To Magenta: You must not work in public education. Too many of our parents are scamming the system. They don't want to work much less help their kid with homework. I am actually not talking out of my ^$*@# as you said, but with the experience and knowledge of being a counselor in a school..so I actually deal with the parents who are doing meth instead of taking care of their kids. There are great parents who love and take care of their children and put them first. There are great parents who are poor and need help who take care of their kids and want a better life for their kids...but my experience is with a population who are scamming the system, who don't want to work, who don't want to take care of their children, and would not help with homework if their "check" depended on it. And these are the parents who are the first to complain when "their baby" has a problem..and it's the teachers fault?? Maybe you need to come and work with me for a day or two, and you might change your opinion. Thanks David for bringing a terrible subject to the front of the heap...
