As far as 7th "dumbest" state - most college professors have PhD's and are among the least realistic and dumbest people in the world. Bill Gates never got a degree. A degree does not measure brains. But what is Saban doing about degrees - When Saban was 1st hired in 2007, the Alabama President said he wanted to use Natl Championships to increase the Alabama enrollment - then at about 23,000. Today, using football as a draw, there are 35,000 - and now among the top 10 in the US in Merit Scholarship students. The football team has walked into every bowl game in the last 5 years with 22-23 players who have graduated - the highest by far each year. The Athletic Department this year set major records for Academic All Americans - easily out pacing every other college in America. In 2007, the athletic profit was under $6 million - with 1/3 going to academics. The article says the profit is now $34 with $6.5 to academics - but Alabama has always returned 1/3 of the profit to academics. If 1/3 is true - money to academics is over $11 million. Forbes said Alabama made $45 million this year - and if 1/3 then $15 million to academics. Based on this, then under Saban the amount to academics has gone from $2 million to $15 million a year - or $13 million more for academics and over 11,000 more students. Is he worth it? - those on the academic side who actually understand facts think so.
