whitwell 1970: an onside kick with 35 on the board is not embarassing. there are 60+ kids on smhs that deserve to play, and do whatever it takes to score. all kids have the right to play there hardest and feel good about the job they have done. the fact is, that smhs's JV team could beat most anyone they play on any given day. so whether it is the 2nd string or the 5th string, they deserve the same opportunities. if teams are not at the same level as SMHS, they need to refuse to play them, so they will have to arrange a different game. regardless of who they play, no matter what classification, someone is always gonna have an excuse as to why they win.....so when u get beat by a team 75-0, dont hold hard feelings, just face the facts, even if it was the 3rd, 4th and 5th string that beat u. however, i do commend the program at whitwell for improving. they have descent athletes, but they lack the coaching..it makes a difference
1982indian: u have got to give me a break. u are definately hallucinating when u think seq will beat smhs. u r in playoffs on luck. any team to barely beat whitwell, doesnt have much of a team. smhs doesnt need tim to beat schs by 100 points. and yeh the eagles may be home the next weak, but trust me, they will be enjoying seeing all of u get your buts beat out the first week of playoffs..cause yall are not state material......keep on dreaming
almostamanda: the person who turned smhs in to tssaa is important, when it is a conflict of interest regarding another team in the same district, and if it effects the playoffs. smhs should be allowed to keep the 2 wins that occured after tssaa was made aware of a possible ineligible player on the team. it is not right for someone who is in the administration of another school in the same district (who is a tssaa member as well) to be able withhold information, when the school where u r an administrator, deems to benefit from it. especially if you hold this info conveniently long enough so the team in question of the violation can not possible recover from the tssaa penalty, due to it being so late in season. even if the tssaa does not overturn the whole decision, they should atleast have to be responsible for the neglegency of the members who did not notify the smhs program, and give them back some of the wins they have worked so hard for.
james101: concerning the altercations with signal mtn and soddy-baylor. signal gets the bad wrap not matter what. soddy has a rep of fighting (look @ soddy vs red bank every year), and baylor is no angel either. soddy started the fight this summer and last year as well, and as far as baylor, they do their fair share as well. a soddy coach hit a signal mtn player during scuffle this year and last year eric westmoreland @ baylor took a swing at one of sm players. but of course, you never hear anything about that or see it on u tube. just saying, most people have hated signal mtn from the start of the school, which didnt have anything to do with the soddy-baylor scuffles. explain that
idurham: ur comments r sooooooo sarcastic. just another hot head that pretends to know something about what he is talking about, while sounding so immature and demeaning. get a life! you definately dont appear to have one, since u hav more comments than anyone else on this site concerning this matter
headcoconut: dont turn the smhs into a race issue, it is anything but that. ther are plently of children from all racial backgrounds at all signal mountain schools. you dont have to be any certain race to be welcomed on smhs, nor do you have to come with a birth certificate authenticating that you can carry a football, kick a field goal, make a jump shot, make a hole in one, hit a grand slam or even be a part of any type of athletic team. all that is expected is for students to be respectful, work hard to succeed, and suport each other. yes, smhs students have been in the wrong, and thanks to TFP, everyone knows it. but the truth of the matter is, that these things go on with teenagers in many others schools, it just doesnt make it to the front page of the newspaper because of their popularity. so, the pathetic truth is, that maybe after all of this tssaa stuff is over with, and regardless of the final outcome, maybe everyone in chattanooga that has hated smhs since the beginning, can finally find something else to do, and maybe get on another teams back and ride it for awhile. ive always said " haters love to hate us and losers want to be us" go eagles!
chioK_V: ther are plenty of students on NCLB, that are ther for academics not athletics. the problem is, that some of these students are a behavior issue, and bring disruption to the learning environment. this would intern, bring down the amount of quantity of education being relayed to students, not the QUALITY. lord know i am all for NCLB, if the intent from the students are to learn. though sometimes i wonder if some children are being "left behind" or if they want to just "tag along"
not everyone on signal is wealthy or has it made. not everyone on signal is there for athletics. an ovewhelming % of students come from homes with real working parents just like everyone else. some come from homes where single parents are working multiple jobs to have there children in the high school and elementary schools on signal mtn, and alot of these students do not play sports. alot of people have taken ther kids out of private and put them at signal (yes, just for academics--not athletics) yes the schools have the best of both worlds it seems. so please dont criticize, because the truth be knows, if you could make a better opportunity for your children by changing to another school because you thought that they would have a better education and opportunities for the future.. im sure that you would make changes to.
devldoc: as for the smhs vs polk game friday, it was an emotional loss. these kids are under fire all the time, not just now since tssaa thing. TFP, other communities, the news, etc never have anything good the say about these young students. only the negative things are discussed. they were harrassed pregame, game, and post game by relentless polk county fans concerning tssaa invest. what everyone is forgetting is that these players are just children. and im sure, that if it were anyone elses children other than those from signal mtn, things would not be looked at with such harsh and relentless views and comments
taytay2011: please get all of your facts together before commenting on the soddy-signal confrontation over the summer. yeh, there were players and parents involved. however, one small detail you let out was the fact that an adult (coach) from soddy hit a smhs player during fight, but of course all the video on youtube posted my soddy parents, so conveniently left that part and others out. talk all you want about smhs, but soddy have been trouble makers forever. look at the soddy-red bank game every year. can u recall last time that they played when there wasnt a fight.
Signal Mountain’s appeal denied by TSSAA
