Awww that's a nice Psalm. It doesn't say pray in public. Also, none of the people opposing the prayer are chastising the Christians for praying... simply for praying out loud in a government meeting where the government officials SHOULD have the best interest of EVERY member of their community in mind rather than just those that share their same religious belief. If they all want to pray, it would make sense that they could still say a prayer IN PRIVATE in during a moment of silence. It seems to me as though if the Christians read Matthew 6:5-8, and did what the bible says, that this wouldn't even be an issue.
All these people who are wanting to continue this prayer publicly should refer to their own holy book before speaking. Their book that they supposedly live their lives by even gives explicit instruction on praying in private.
"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
Matthew 6:6 (KJV)
I agree that the attempt to be funny completely flopped!! Those of us with sons are more stoked about seeing our kids' faces at the event rather than the actual event itself. At 6 and 7 years old, there isn't anything bigger in the world that a steele cage match between Randy Orton & Mark Henry! We'll be sitting right on the aisle where they run out. Hoping for a high five for my boys!!! =)
Agreed, Rickaroo. I couldn't have said it better myself.... What if I told my children, I love you, but if you don't accept me as the be all end all, then you are going to burn in hell forever... I'm pretty sure putting kids through that kind of emotional torment is enough to make them suicidal. Depression is an illness that you can't "scare" out of people, and you certainly can't "pray" it away. This is mind boggling... I'd much rather my little heathens enjoy their halloween like I did as a kid... running and playing in my costume and stuffing myself full of candy till my belly hurt. Happy Halloween!!!
tbs1015 .... I hold a great deal of respect for you, my friend.
For most (not all) of the rest of you, religious zealots baffle me... your circular reasoning does nothing but give those of us who have the ability to think for ourselves some cheap entertainment. Congrats! I've been entertained today.
teedlesp73 ... I do not know if you have ever been through a rape or not, but by the way your statement reads, I would guess not. If you have never been there, you have no idea what it does to a person. Also, not all rapes are violent... common misunderstanding
I too have children, and cannot fathom going through an abortion. However, I cannot imagine looking into the face of a child created by my rapist every day and telling that child i love them more than anything in the world. I can't imagine what a woman must go through before, during and after an abortion, but I would fight to the ends of the earth for a woman to have the right to make that decision on her own, and be provided a safe environment for it to happen, rather than a dark ally and a rusty coathanger.
Flyingpuple.... So, let me get this straight.... the CHILDREN of "sinners" had to die for what reason? Because their parents "sinned"? Hmmm.... sounds like a benevolent god to me. nice. Let me go ahead and teach that to my children.... Well kiddos, because mom has done some bad things in her past, you're going to have to die... been nice knowing you.

Those opposing the prayer can fight this battle against those that are for it by using their own weapon. Shall I quote more verses from your Book?
