Well, Orr, since the TFP took away the proof from physicist Fourier and Nobel Prize winner Arrhenuis, you will never know about the evidence used to verify this, nor will you know about the green house effect. This paper is like Fox News, they will keep you uninformed.
Thank you, Plato, for reading and questioning this. I guess this paper views science as an opinion. My husband and I are addicted newspaper readers, but yesterday we cancelled our subscription to the Times Free Press. I called them today and they really don't care.
This was my original letter. I'm quite upset that you edited out that the science is clear and established. Congratulations on being such a good EDITor. You now have one less subscriber.
"The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." - Neil deGrasse Tyson.
The last 35 years, were the hottest in 400 years. The arctic is rapidly losing its ice shelf. The ice shelf serves as a reflector to the sun's ultra-violet rays. Without the ice reflecting the sun's warmth, our planet will absorb the sun's heat and temperatures will continue to rise.
Our ice shelves are melting due to what is known as the "greenhouse effect." The "Greenhouse Effect" is a warming that occurs from increases in certain gasses, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth's atmosphere. This was first discovered by Joseph Fourier about 200 years ago, it was proven and verified over 100 years ago, by Svante Arrhenius. Arrhenius performed calculations to prove how much incoming radiation was absorbed by CO2 and water vapor to heat the atmosphere.
Whether or not some people believe it, we need to decrease CO2 emissions to save our planet. The most significant man-caused source of CO2 gases is coal-fired electrical generation. Let’s move to other energy sources, such as: nuclear, solar and wind to address our needs. The time to act is now.

Never thought I'd agree with Tim Price, but I do on this letter. Times Free Press needs to re-visit its policy of 200 words or less on letters to the editor. I'm working on a letter about the greenhouse effect and what it means for our planet. It is difficult to condense this down to 200 words. Your editors have the right to change things, so why not let folks write letters without worrying about word counts? If it is too long or repetitive, let the editors deal with it.
I love the Civil War series every Sunday. It is my favorite piece to read in the paper. I hope this series continues for at least another year.
Wonderful news. As you pointed out, most of the casualties are not on the front line. IED's (roadside bombs) have been a leading cause of death in this war and these are not selective killings. Good to see the women getting protection fitted for them. It is shameful it took us into our 12 year of war to do this.
Richard Dawkins: why didn't you ask why the Iraq war was off the books until Bush left office? If you were so concerned about the debt, you should have thought about and protested the war like you are protesting Obama. Iraq war cost us 3 trillion. What did we get in return for this war based on a lie? 4800 dead Americans, nearly a million dead Iraqis and a pile of debt.
Where's the outrage?
Romney and the host of the party Marc Leder of Sun Capital are both private equity managers. They make huge profits on performance fees, which is income. The hedge fund and private equity managers lobbied Congress and had a loophole put in which changed their fees from income tax to capital gains which is taxed at a lower rate. Thus, Romney pays no income tax. If anyone is a free loader it is Mitt and the hedge fund managers. Mitt won't even release his tax returns because he knows he hasn't paid any income tax. Sheer hypocrisy and disdain for America.
Get more background on Marc Leder by googling Marc Leder and his party at the Hamptons.
This poll is an affront to me. Look what the Vols did by replacing Fulmer with Kiffen.... oh Gosh, there are no words. GIve Derek Dooley a chance. He's a kind, smart man who is Vince Dooley's son. Give him a chance. I stand with Coach Dooley.
I would like to see a debate in TN-27, too. Frank Eaton vs. Richard Floyd would be great debate.
